For those of you out there that do not have the Hermanators cd "Twisted", you need to get it! Rodney Holmes is one bad cat! I have a bootleg with him playing with the Steve Kimock Band in Charlotte,NC too! This guy can flat get it!

nice! For those not hip to Rodney, he is absolutely fantastic. Great funky, fusion guy. Had the Santana gig for a number of years.
Steve Kimock has about 10 albums worth of free road mp3's on his site all with Rodney. GREAT stuff!

I got 'Twisted' not too long after it came out. It is bad!!! Rodney Holmes is a madman. He has said before that Allan Holdsworth is an influence, and it shows in his solo phrasing. Excellent stuff.

I saw him with the Brecker Brothers in '94. He played great. He soloed on "Above and Below". He soloed over a vamp andseemed really free and intuitive, like he did'nt have anything restricting him. Lots of chops!
I have a Jane Getter cd with him and Victor Bailey on it, mostly groove stuff. He's on 4 or 5 tracks from a David Gilmore (Steve Coleman) cd. That one is more "progressive" sounding.
Peace

Funny story [posted this a while back]...
I was doing a gig at a fair in Jacksonville, FL in Oct '96. On 1 of our 2+1/2 breaks between shows, we drove over to "The [Jax] Landing" to have a late lunch. The Jax Jazz Fest was going on there @ the same time, & we were sitting on the outside deck of the Hooters[!] there. A soundcheck was going on, & I could see the drummer & bassist tearin it up. I walked over & asked the soundguy who the band was; it was Larry Coryell's son Julian's group. I watched the soundcheck 4 about 10 min, then they quit & i went back over & sat w/ my bandmates. Then I see the drummer come down off the riser, & walk right in our direction - he ends up walking right by our table, so I struck up a conversation w/ him. Turns out it was Rodney Holmes. I'd seen ads in Mod Drummer w/ him prior, so i pretty much recognized him at that point. VERY nice guy; gave me his home ph # in the NYC area at the time. [This was some yrs b4 the Santana gig]...& I'll just say this - he was making that bass player SWEAT - faces I've only seen a few times from bassists [caused by a @#$%& good drummer]... Rodney was playing some twisted, blazing, latin-jazz-fusion groove [of which I've long 4gotten what it was because i didnt jot the @#$&% thing down!!], & he had been saying to the bassist - "No -no - HERE'S where the '1' is [img]wink.gif[/img] ....]
